Originally, a series set in the Game of Thrones universe was supposed to release years ago, but it never saw the light of day. Today, we finally know what it could have looked like. Unfortunately, it didn’t win everyone over. Nevertheless, a spin-off called “House of the Dragon,” still based on George R. R. Martin’s books, was put on the table.
And it was a resounding success. However, did you know that another series in this universe could have made it to our screens? Well, it just resurfaced. Several years ago, HBO spent around 30 million dollars to finance a Game of Thrones spin-off.
With Naomi Watts in the lead role, it was no small production. Sadly, the axe fell, and the project was canceled. It’s a blessing in disguise, as they say. The problem is, many of us would have liked to see what it looked like.
Good news, our wish has been granted. We’ve been treated to some images of this famous series called “Blood Moon.” This prequel apparently aimed to tell the story of a marriage between a Stark and a Casterly. The plot was set to take place at Casterly Rock, a well-known location for Game of Thrones fans.
We can only see Naomi Watts in the costume she would have worn in the series. She explains that the pilot was shot four years ago. For some Game of Thrones fans, this is great news. We don’t always get to catch glimpses of canceled projects.
For others, it’s more complicated. Yes, we want to see more; curiosity has been piqued. Don’t count on it, though, as the Blood Moon project has been laid to rest for good. But evidently, it was necessary.
According to Robert Greenblatt, former chairman of WarnerMedia, it didn’t live up to HBO’s ambitions. In that case, perhaps it’s for the best that we got “House of the Dragon” instead.
